Inspired by playing COD's Nazi Zombies waaaaaaay to much, this map and timeline consider what could happen if the nazi's final, secret and ultimate weapon had been a zombie virus.
After the initial outbreak in 1945, when the Third Reich hoped to cripple the enemy with hordes of mindless undead (which they couldn't control) the governments of Europe collapsed in the face of the Horde. The Reich itself was crushed while the Allied and Soviet armies were pushed further and further back.
By 1946, it seemed as if all of Europe would be overrun as Allied armies were pushed to the very edge of the coast, trying to create defensive perimeters. Massive amounts of people tried to flee the Horde to reach Britain but due to fears of spread, many of these initial refugee ships were ordered to be terminated by the Royal Navy, a move that has condemned the British government for years to come. The Soviet Union tried to supress all information that would reach it's citizens despite millions dying on the zombie front. Stalin would allow no surrender to the Red Army in Europe, falling back not strategically but through the sheer weight of the Horde behind it. The Horde began to make breakthroughs into the Asian continent during the infection and spread through Turkey and eventually the Middle East. Some European nations tried to build new fortified states around natural defences but with little success. The USA began to enforce the Atlantic Quarantine, hoping that a full scale military naval blockade would protect the New World from infection.
By 1947, the emergency had reached an extreme, with infections beginning to break out in Britain and Ireland, since two of the only secure places left in Europe. The mass graves in the south of England and Ireland are testament to the necessity the times created. The Soviet Union began construction between 46 and late 47 of the Red Curtain, a massive defensive perimeter that they promised the zombies could not break through. The disarray of the Scandinavian states also allowed the USSR to consolidate new ground and despite warnings from all around, Stalin committed parts of the Red Army to taking the area. Attempts by the Allied governments to halt the zombie advance were proving futile.
In 1948, a turning point was reached with the first application of the Patton Doctrine which called for slow expansion into zombie territory, fortifying positions as army groups went with a sole large fortification for any overwhelmed groups to retreat to. Slowly, Allied forces began to progress into what was formerly France and Germany, arming civilians as they went and creating 'Patton States', temporary territories of the Allied powers against the onslaught of the Horde. The USSR adopted a similar technique (of course they claimed they developed it first) and thanks to the immense size of their army, and Stalin's callous disregard for human life, Soviet 'Militarised Border Zones' grew faster than the Allies' 'Patton States'. The greater overrunning of Asia by the Horde forced the US to expand the quarantine across the Pacific, giving rise to the New World Quarantine protecting all of the Americas.
In 1949, the surviving European nations created the Human Pact of Europe, committing themselves to upholding 'human' values in the face of the Horde. Ireland, Portugal (much reduced), Italy (much reduced and still under Mussolini's rule, the Allies being forced to sign a ceasefire in favour of possible co-operation), Iceland, Corsica, Crete, Cyprus and Peloponnese (remnant of the Greek government). The HPE became an invaluable ally to the Allies for future operations. Operation Market Town was put into place also to establish footholds in what was formerly Spanish Atlantic coastline and Denmark.
By 1950, it was discovered that a new state was growing in parts of Europe: The Fourth Reich, under the military command of Der Riese, those responsible for creating the infection in the first place. The main core of the Reich was in Germany and Poland, while other parts sprang up in Spain, Yugoslavia and former Vichy France. Agents and soldiers of Der Riese possessed advanced and weird technologies that gave them an advantage over the undead. Greater experimentation on them continued in DR's laboratories, with the Reich hoping to discover a way in which to control them. Upon gaining knowledge of their existence, the Allies, the HPE and the USSR declared war upon them, all with secret agendas to gain and grasp their powerful technologies.
In 1951, a change began in the Outbreak War. Zombies seemed to be inextricably driven eastwards and massive hordes coalesced on the Soviet Union's MBS borders. Attacks continued to occur along western Europe but with greater numbers and also more co-ordination. Could it be that DR's machinations were working? The USSR, which had taken many zombies to study itself to the research base of Tunguska, now the largest fortification in the world and part of the Asian Red Curtain, was being overrun from the East now as the spread of infection through the halls of the Tunguskan facility had opened up a hole for the Horde to push through and into the USSR. The Americans should be more careful of their own zombies that have been taken for research but only time will tell......
